Vinilo exclusivo con los cinco primeros demos de Queen, grabados en los estudios De Lane Lea en diciembre de 1971 y enero de 1972.
Queen comenzó su vida a principios del verano de 1970, pero dio sus primeros pasos en el estudio después de que el vocalista Freddie Mercury, el guitarrista Brian May y el baterista Roger Taylor reclutaron al bajista, John Deacon, en marzo de 1971.
En 1971, De Lane Lea abrió un nuevo complejo de estudios en Wembley y necesitaba una banda que les ayudara a probar las mesas de mezclas y las cualidades acústicas de las diferentes salas. El grupo anterior a Queen de Brian y Roger, Smile, había grabado en la ubicación anterior de De Lane Lea en Kingsway de Londres y ofreció a su "nueva" banda Queen para el trabajo. La banda pasó tiempo ayudando en el estudio en varias ocasiones entre finales de agosto y principios de diciembre de 1971, "una emoción enorme", recuerda Brian. Fueron recompensados con un demo de cinco canciones, grabado entre el 16 de diciembre de 1971 y el 7 de enero de 1972 por el ingeniero de De Lane Lea, Louie Austin.
A pesar de que estos demos estaban destinados a ser vendidos para conseguir un contrato de grabación, la banda, dice Brian, siempre sintió que las actuaciones tenían más espontaneidad y chispa, así como el beneficio de sonidos más naturales en comparación con las versiones finales del álbum.
"Las demos que hicimos en De Lane Lea Studios estaban más cerca de lo que soñábamos", explica Brian. "Agradables sonidos de batería abierta y ambiente en la guitarra. Esa era mucho más la forma en que queríamos que fuera".
"Éramos jóvenes y teníamos una fe ciega total en lo que estábamos haciendo", dice Roger.
Cuando llegó el momento de volver a grabar estas canciones para su álbum debut, la banda insistió en usar esta grabación de De Lane Lea Studios en lugar de intentar una nueva versión en Trident Studios. Introdujeron de contrabando su demo multipista para mezclar la canción del álbum. Por otro lado, la versión demo de 'Jesus' con un tempo más pesado y lento y con secciones solistas extendidas es la más notablemente diferente en comparación con la versión final del álbum.
Como las únicas copias supervivientes de las mezclas de las demos están en acetatos rayados, aquí, por primera vez, estas grabaciones autoproducidas han sido restauradas y remezcladas a partir de las multipistas originales y lanzadas en vinilo de 12".

Record Store Day Exclusive vinyl featuring all five of Queen’s early demos, recorded at De Lane Lea Studios in December 1971 & January 1972.
Queen began life in early summer 1970, but took their first steps in the studio after vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor recruited a nineteen-year-old bass guitarist, John Deacon, in March 1971.
In  Lea opened a new studio complex in Wembley, and needed a band to he1971, De Lanelp them test the mixing desks and the acoustic qualities of the different rooms. Brian and Roger’s pre-Queen group, Smile, had recorded at De Lane Lea’s previous location in London’s Kingsway and volunteered their ‘new’ band Queen for the job. The band spent time helping at the studio on various occasions between late August to early December 1971 – “a massive thrill” Brian recalls. They were repaid with a five-song demo, recorded between Dec 16th 1971 - Jan 7th 1972 by De Lane Lea engineer Louie Austin
Although these demos were intended to be hawked around to procure a recording contract, the band, says Brian, always felt the performances had more spontaneity and sparkle, as well as the benefit of more natural sounds compared with the final album versions.
“The demos we made at De Lane Lea Studios were closer to what we dreamed of,” explains Brian. “Nice open drum sounds and ambience on the guitar. That was much more the way we wanted it to go.”
“We were young and had total blind faith in what we were doing,” says Roger.
When it came time to re-record these songs for their debut album, the band insisted on using the recording of ‘The Night Comes Down’ from De Lane Lea Studios rather than attempt a new version at Trident studios. They smuggled in their demo multi-track tape in order to mix the song for the album. On the other hand, the demo version of ‘Jesus’ with a heavier, slower tempo and with extended solo sections is the most notably different as compared to the eventual album version.
As the only surviving copies of the mixes of the demos are on scratched acetates, here for the first time, these self-produced recordings have been restored and remixed from the original multi-tracks and released on 12” vinyl.
