“Megadeth… Megadeth… aguante Megadeth” es un canto que hoy en día se escucha en todo el mundo cuando Megadeth arranca con su mayor éxito, “Symphony of Destruction”. Pero comenzó durante la primera visita de la banda a Argentina en 1994.
Cuando la banda tocó las notas iniciales de la canción, el siempre enfervorizado público de Buenos Aires empezó a corear al unísono.
Dice el líder de la banda, Dave Mustaine: “Paré en medio de la canción y pregunté: ‘¿Qué están diciendo?’ Me respondieron: ‘¡Aguante Megadeth!’ ‘Aguante’ significa ‘sigan adelante’, y los chicos iban ‘A-guan-te Me-ga-deth’ siguiendo el riff”.
Está claro que los fans los abrazaron, y aquella gira argentina de cinco noches con todas las entradas agotadas en 1994 fue el inicio de una historia de amor entre Megadeth y Argentina que perdura hasta el día de hoy. Así que, tras el reciente anuncio de su gira de despedida, viajamos atrás en el tiempo: a un concierto clásico, con canciones clásicas y la formación clásica de Mustaine, Ellefson, Menza y Friedman.

“Megadeth….Megadeth….aguante Megadeth” It’s a common worlwide singalong nowadays when Megadeth launches into their biggest hit ‘Symphony of destruction’. But it started during the bands first visit to Argentina in 1994.
As the band played the opening notes of the song, the always rabid Buenos Aires crowd began to chant along in unison. Says bandleider Dave Mustaine, “I stopped in the middle of the song and said, ‘What are you saying?’ They said, ‘Aguante Megadeth!’ ‘Aguante’ means keep going, and the kids were going ‘A-guan-te Me-ga-deth’ along to the riff.”
Its pretty clear the fans embraced them and that five night sold out 1994 Argentinian tour was the start of a love affair between Megadeth and Argentina that lasts to this day. So as the band recently announced its farewell tour, we step back in time. To a classic gig, to classic songs and the classic line-up of Mustaine, Ellefson, Menza and Friedman.
