This amazing box set of 300 numbered copies documents the promotional tour of "Heaven And Hell", the five concerts reproduced on those nine CDs are those held at the Stadthalle in Offenbach in Germany (2 June 1980, audience source), at the Civic Arena in Hartford, Connecticut (10 August 1980, soundboard), at the Nakano Sunplaza in Tokyo (16 and 18 November 1980, both soundboard) and at the Capitol Theater in Sydney, Australia (27 November 1980, soundboard). On that occasion Black Sabbath, who opened the setlist with "War Pigs" and concluded it with "Children Of The Grave", presented themselves for the first time with Ronnie James Dio on the microphone instead of Ozzy Osbourne, while from August 19th the drummer Bill Ward was replaced by Vinny Appice
 
Black Sabbaths original line-up lasted until 1979, after which Osbourne was fired and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. But it was not only Dio that were new to the band. They had also brought in the musical genius Geoff Nicholls, first as a second guitarist when Black Sabbath doubted whether they would even continue under that name. Nicholls then switched to bass when Geezer Butler left briefly, and then became the band’s keyboardist upon Butler’s return and the decision to keep the Sabbath name. Nicholls and Dio lighted the spark back into the band again and the band wrote and demoed material for their upcoming album without Geezer Butler. Heaven And Hell was very successful and became the bands highest-charting album since 1975’s Sabotage. The Heaven And Hell tour. The tour started in Europe in April of 1980 and ran unto February of 1981. The choice to start in Europe was due to the face that the band knew they could rely on their fanbase even though they had changed singer. After the European leg the band went to Usa for a co-headlining tour with Blue Öyster Cult called Black And Blue Tour. Original drummer Bill Ward left the band after the show at Met center on August 19th 1980, forcing the band to cancel 6 shows, and he was replaced by Vinnie Appice. In November of 1980 the band toured Japan and Australia before returning to Europe in January of 1981 to do some more shows on English soil. This massive 9 cd box set is a fine testament to that glorious tour with gigs from the first European leg, the Black And Blue tour, the Japanese tour and finally a show from the Australian leg and lots of bonus recordings and interviews. We got both nights from Tokyo so you get the second night were the played a Heaven And Hell version that is less than 10 minutes. The first five minutes of the show are classic Sabbath but in the middle of the song Iommi walks off stage, which Dio, Butler and Appice expertly improvised and carried into Iron Man. However the show ends with Iron Man and Iommi never returns to the stage and dont play on Iron Man. The audience are told Tony is ill and that they should now go home. The audience was raucous, blowing whistles and not understandably unhappy with this development. All these are included on this recording. All these classic shows makes it a must have for fans of the Dio era of Black Sabbath.
