Madrid's beat scene tended toward Tom Jones soul, with loads of brass riffs & grooved up farfisa. Los Bravos were a hot rockin' local supergroup made up of members from Los Sonor & the Runaways. They had a couple of secret weapons: their pro production facilities, plus Mike Kogel, a German singer who was really into Gene Pitney. This helped the band accomplish the unheard of feat of getting a huge hit in the US. Unfortunately, they fell apart suddenly when their organ player Manuel got into a car accident that killed his girlfriend, and he was so bereft he committed suicide. Here's their debut, with the famed 'Black Is Black'.
