El diseño de las portadas de cada una de las cajas recopilatorias se basa en iconografía inspirada en los lanzamientos originales; las fundas de los vinilos incluyen los diseños de los singles originales.

En este caso se trata de un Box Deluxe con 10 vinilos de doce pulgadas del álbum 'Playing the angel', originalmente publicado en octubre de 2005, que incluye los singles 'Precious', 'A pain that I'm used to', 'Suffer well' y 'John the revelator/ Lilian' con sus respectivas caras B, remezclas, instrumentales, versiones dub y otras grabaciones contemporáneas al undécimo trabajo de estudio de Depeche Mode (todas ellas cuidadosamente enfundadas con el arte original de cada sencillo). Además de un disco entero dedicado a 'The darkest star', de cuya canción proviene el título del álbum, la caja incluye también un disco exclusivo con otras caras B y remezclas disponibles por primera vez en vinilo.
